The eight stages of yoga are abstentions, observances, posture, breath control, withdrawal of the senses, concentration, meditation and absorption.
Here we teach Iyengar Yoga. Iyengar yoga is a systematic approach to the asanas and pranayamas developed by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar.
In Iyengar Yoga the emphasis is placed on alignment of the body, mind and breath. The class is artfully sequenced so the student can begin to experience inner harmony and quiet and feel energized. The classes are arranged monthly to cover all categories of poses.
Iyengar Yoga is known for alignment of the skeleton, for a proper stretch of the muscles, tendons and ligaments and proper placement of the organic body. Props are introduced to educate the body.
Our Sessions, Workshops, Props
Our series of classes are typically 8 weeks long but sometimes they are slightly longer or shorter depending on the season and upcoming holidays. Classes are 1.5 hours. 3 hour workshops are offered bimonthly on Sundays and sometimes in different locations in the city. We also offer weekend workshops once or twice per year with a visiting Senior certified Iyengar Yoga teacher.
At Planet Yoga we have beginners classes, mixed level classes and intermediate level classes.
Yoga mats are provided but you are encouraged to bring your own. We provide all the props necessary to practice and to enable a student to achieve their full potential.
We offer a combination of in-person classes and workshops and online classes
Online classes are by donations, not free! In-person classes are $18 or $23 as listed
